Britney Spears to Finally Address Court Over Conservatorship Case
After lengthy and publicized legal battles, Britney Spears will speak with the Los Angeles probate court this June on the terms of her conservatorship case. The beloved princess of pop has been under the financial control of her father, Jamie Spears, since her mental health crisis in 2008. A team of lawyers has been working with Spears to regain her $60 million estate and more autonomy of her personal life. This action spawned the #FreeBritney movement and the Hulu documentary Framing Britney Spears, as fans took to the internet bringing attention to the singer’s apparent silence. But Spears no longer wants her father as sole conservator and will voice her concerns during the hearing on June 23.

“Britney wants to address the court directly.” Spears’ attorney Samuel D. Ingham III stated before the Los Angeles Court.
Ingham has been working to remove the Spears patriarch from his guardianship duties and find more ways to grant Spears well-earned financial and daily freedoms. Throughout the last decade, Spears has remained quiet over her legal state of affairs and just how much the conservatorship might be affecting her. But in recent months, she has begun to break her silence.
“Happy to share especially with a world that is empathetic and concerned with my life,” Spears posted on Instagram in early April. While it’s unclear just what might be said in court or how Spears might defend herself, the public is rooting for her success as the battle continues.
Remember at one of her Vegas shows when they let her turn her microphone on and speak freely and she said “this feels illegal!”

Since 2008, Spears has grown as a mother and partner. She released countless chart-topping albums and embarked on world tours. From 2016 to 2018, Spears became the highest-paid act on the Las Vegas Strip for a regularly performed show. All the while, her father remained in control of her finances and decisions.
According to Vivian Lee Thoreen, a lawyer for Jamie Spears, an end to the conversatorship would depend on his daughter’s wishes.
“Jamie Spears would love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship,” Thoreen stated. “If she wants to end her [it], she can file a petition to end it.”
