The talented and young Toronto native Ebony Oshunrinde (Wondagurl) has credits that include multi-platinum hits such as Travis Scott’s “Antidote” and Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money”.

As the first Black Woman to ever win this award in the 50 year history of the Junos, I truly hope this serves as motivation for the young women of our country.

Wondagurl has been honing her craft since she was nine years old before she fully understood music. As she took on piano lessons as a child, she learned how much she enjoyed creating her own melodies rather than learning others on her Casio keyboard.
Wondagurl told Rolling Stone “I got a keyboard a long time ago and was able to make my own ideas. I realized I was doing that more than actually learning how to play the piano. I’d just be letting out whatever was in my head.”

The musical guru currently has a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing along with her own imprint company, Wonderchild. Although Wondagurl may be introverted and reserved, she had to adjust to being one of the most sought-after producers in the industry.
She told Rolling Stone “I never wanted a lot of fame, I always wanted to be behind the scenes, and that’s one reason why I like the production profession. I didn’t know how to handle interviews. People coming up to me, it all would give me a lot of anxiety.” Perhaps, her story can be some great inspiration for many other ambitious introverts out there.
Wondagurl was featured in Forbes 30 under 30 in the Music category back in 2018. She continues to get recognized as a top producer and has earned several Grammy nominations, Top-charting singles, and RIAA certifications. She has also recently become the first Black woman to win producer of the year at Canada’s 2021 JUNO Awards.
