St. Vincent Smashes Her Cover of ‘Sad But True’ for Metallica’s Tribute Album
St. Vincent has shared her rendition of Metallica’s song “Sad But True” ahead of the release of The Metallica Blacklist, a massive tribute album celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Metallica’s iconic self-titled 1991 album, The Black Album. St. Vincent is one of the many talented artists to lend her vocals to some of Metallica’s most well-known songs. The re-release of the album will consist of 53 tracks featuring star-studded musicians in all genres of music coming together to celebrate the hard rockers’ legendary album.
On June 29, St. Vincent took to social media to reveal her rocking out to her cover of “Sad But True.” This song had originally been the second track on the 1991 album. About thirty years later, St. Vincent is here to reimagine the classic. Not only has St. Vincent had fun singing the song, but it is also for a good cause. All proceeds to her cover will go to All Within My Hands, Metallica’s non-profit organization aimed to help those that have loved and supported the band. In addition, St. Vincent’s cover will also benefit the North Texas Food Bank, as St. Vincent grew up in Dallas, Texas before starting her career.

Before St. Vincent’s take on “Sad But True,” other artists have shared their renditions and foundations to help those in need. Previously, Miley Cyrus tackled the hit favorite, “Nothing Else Matters” backed by WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Her powerful rendition benefits All Within My Hands and The Happy Hippie Foundation, Cyrus’s non-profit aimed to help youth homelessness and the LGBTQ community.

It has been a joy to watch artists like Miley Cyrus and St. Vincent reimagine a woman’s place in rock and roll. Metallica has given these talented women a chance to show that women are still so needed in rock music. Be sure to watch St. Vincent’s rendition of “Sad But True” above. The full-length album of The Metallica Blacklist will be released on September 10.
