Yungblud Releases Acoustic Version of ‘mars’ and Covers Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ for Spotify Singles
Yungblud has been the latest singer to make an appearance on Spotify Singles, a series that began five years ago in 2016. Spotify Singles has had legendary names participate in the series such as Sir Elton John, Jorja Smith, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and the late Mac Miller. Yungblud has joined the team, sharing two songs: “mars” and “Like a Virgin.”
Yungblud began with a stripped-back version of his song “mars,” which pays tribute to icon David Bowie. The track “mars” appears on Yungblud’s album Weird!, his second studio album that had been released in December 2020. The chorus of “mars” features the lyrics, “Is there any life on Mars?” These lyrics are reminiscent of Bowie’s hit song “Life on Mars” which appears off Bowie’s 1971 album, Hunky Dory.
Yungblud released an epic cover of “Life on Mars” back in March after receiving positive feedback. Yungblud initially covered the glam rock song in January for A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day! The virtual celebration had been a tribute concert honoring the late David Bowie. Yungblud shared that Bowie had been his favorite artist, and “Life on Mars” had been his favorite song. The video features Yungblud in a red pin-striped suit, perhaps paying homage to the red planet.

For Yungblud’s second song, he paid tribute to the Queen of Pop, Madonna, covering her 1984 song, “Like a Virgin.” Yungblud felt the pressure to cover this song, as his mother and sister played the song religiously. He calls Madonna a “legend” and wanted to put his own punk spin on the classic.
