British singer, Yungblud, has released his stunning rendition of “Life on Mars.” Yungblud has shared his cover of “Life on Mars,” one of David Bowie’s signature songs. Bowie wrote the glam rock song back in 1971, appearing on his album, Hunky Dory. Yungblud covered “Life on Mars” back in January for a video tribute concert honoring David Bowie. The celebration had been called A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day! After receiving positive feedback, Yungblud announced on Thursday, March 18 he would release the iconic song as a single.

Yungblud’s cover was adored by many, including NASA. On March 18, Yungblud took to social media to announce he has dropped a merch line with NASA to commemorate the moment. In the same post, he also shared that “Life on Mars” is his “favourite song” and named Bowie his “favourite artist.”

The video of Yungblud singing “Life on Mars” shows him alone on stage in a red pinstriped suit, perhaps paying homage to the red planet. Yungblud has his hair slicked back where he delivers a strong and intimate performance, despite holding the celebration virtually. A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day had been held on January 10, 2021, marking the fifth anniversary of Bowie’s death.

Fans have praised Yungblud for covering a song by someone as powerful as the Starman. It is difficult to do that song justice. “Life on Mars” has continued to permeate into pop culture, where celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Lorde put their own spin on the song. Jessica Lange famously covered the song in American Horror Story: Freak Show back in 2014. Her character was fittingly named Elsa Mars.
