Christina Aguilera Discusses New Albums and Supporting Britney Spears
Christina Aguilera recently spoke about her upcoming music and support for fellow 1990s breakout star Britney Spears amidst her conservatorship battle.
I can wholeheartedly say I had the time of my LIFE performing at the @HollywoodBowl this weekend. THANK YOU to the incredible team that made this show possible✨✨ pic.twitter.com/O6XgeRTjGk

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Aguilera expressed her excitement for her concert with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, which took place on July 16 and 17.

On meeting Dudamel, the Venezuelan conductor, Aguilera stated, “I mean, it was such an honor. He does what I live for.” She then expressed her love for orchestral music. “I grew up around it. My mom’s a violinist and traveled abroad with an orchestra when she was 16. And I’m such a fan of scores — movies with beautiful orchestration, from the Marvel movies to ‘Moonlight.'”

The singer revealed that she is making an English album and a Spanish album. On the latter, she explained that her last Spanish record, “Mi Reflejo,” released over 20 years ago, paid tribute to her father.

“It was such a beautiful moment for me to pay tribute to my roots on my father’s side—he’s from Ecuador—and ever since I’ve been wanting to do another one. So it’s really 20 years overdue, except now I’m kind of glad it was so long because I’ve been able to come back and dig deeper into some of my personal stories regarding my dad. I’ve always had a very estranged relationship with him, and I’m kind of touching on that,” the singer stated.
Aguilera is working with producers and writers she admires for her English album, such as Joseph Angel, who wrote Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain.” Aguilera discussed what it was like to create the album, especially during the pandemic.
“It’s not about us trying to fit a mold; it’s a grown perspective that embodies everything I’ve experienced in this business and on a personal level. I made a lot of changes over quarantine — new people, new support team. The experience helped you realize who your ride-or-dies are. I’m in a really happy place, and I’ve never been able to fully say that.”
Recently, Aguilera wrote a heartfelt Twitter thread supporting Britney Spears in response to her fight against her conservatorship and father, James Parnell Spears.
These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through.

The American singer and ’90s icon stated, “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.” She also wrote, “Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.”

The first tweet in the thread had a picture of Aguilera and Spears when they were very young. Aguilera explained, “It was from our days in the Mickey Mouse Club. We were 11 or 12, babies in the business together, which is so amazing to come full circle — to both be able to have the success that we’ve had. It was a beautiful thing to look back at those pictures; there’s such a glow in our eyes.” She reflected on her powerful Twitter messages by saying, “We all deserve some happiness. I’ll always be supportive of Britney.”
