29-year-old singer and actress Selena Gomez called out a joke written about her 2017 kidney transplant in Paramount Plus’ The Good Fight.

Per Variety, a recent episode of The Good Fight involved the characters brainstorming ideas for jokes. Since these jokes were for a television executive, the characters brought up cancel culture and noted that some topics would be off-limits because comedians “…need a permission slip to tell a joke.” They decided that one of the forbidden topics was Gomez’s kidney transplant.

Gomez took to Twitter to call out the insensitive joke. She wrote, “I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently. I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.”

The Only Murders In The Building star continued, “My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU.” She then encouraged her fans to become organ donors.

A source claimed that the joke was taken out of context. “If you watch the episode in full, the reference to Selena Gomez is part of a discussion the characters are having about topics that are not okay to make fun of and the idea of cancel culture and being canceled for telling a bad joke. The reference is that Selena Gomez’s transplant is not something you can joke about.”

However, her fans on Twitter weren’t buying it. Gomez was right because they definitely had her back.
