The Sex Lives of College Girls Begins Production on New Season
The wildly popular HBO Max series, The Sex Lives of College Girls, started Season 2 production on Tuesday, and we cannot contain our excitement.
The coming-of-age comedy-drama created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble follows four roommates as they navigate the ups and downs of life at a prestigious college in New England. From queer relationships and casual dating to gender inequality and sexual harassment, the series tackles an array of issues surrounding Gen Z women today.
After the first season’s smashing success last year, Kaling revealed on Instagram that the newest season is now underway. “Back at Essex College with these baddies,” the comedian wrote in her caption. “@thesexlivesofcollegegirls Season 2 table read time!”
Actress and singer Reneé Rapp (Leighton Murray) shared some BTS footage on her TikTok. In a “Pass the Phone” challenge on set, Rapp and other beloved Essex characters shared their hilarious opinions of one another. “I’m gonna pass the phone to someone who claims to be straight but is actually my girlfriend,” Rapp joked as she passed the phone to Alyah Chanelle Scott (Whitney Chase).
On Dec. 7, 2021, HBO Max officially renewed the series for a second season. After an emotional finale filled with breakups, cheating, lies, and scandal, Season 2 is bound to bring the drama. Roommates Leighton, Whitney, Bela (Amrit Kaur), and Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) will return for the series’ new installment. However, Leighton’s brother Nico (Gavin Leatherwood) unfortunately will not.
“It was such an incredible experience. I think Mindy is brilliant, and the cast, everyone’s lovely,” Leatherwood told Us Weekly. “But with so many amazing opportunities out there, we want to keep spreading our wings and leading ourselves to other projects, so that’s the move.”
