Youngjae Brings Out His Sweet Vocals in Newest EP SUGAR
GOT7’s Youngjae, who has pursued a solo career alongside promoting with his group, released his second official EP SUGAR on June 21. The vocalist is currently promoting the mini-album’s title track, “SUGAR,” which embodies a fast-paced, rock-pop sound. His sweet vocals accompany the groovy guitar licks perfectly, which is a delightful surprise since the singer-songwriter excels at heartfelt ballads.
The EP includes four other tracks, each grazing upon different genres of music—from a k-indie inspired beat in “Crema,” the heart-warming love song in “Nothing,” his signature ballad “With You,” and lastly the pop-R&B track “Focus.” This comeback’s concept is a vibrant take on the feeling of being entranced by a lover, and Youngjae makes that point crystal clear when he sings, “I’m so into you and want you.”
Sugar is a legendary track. Youngjae deserves the whole world for releasing this.

“SUGAR” was a refreshing follow-up to his solo debut album as he makes use of addicting melodies and ad-libs to spice up the track. Compared to many of the other summer-themed K-pop songs being released currently, “SUGAR” delivered a sharp, crisp-sounding song to contrast. While the track is certainly addictive and fun to listen to, Youngjae is still trying to establish his sound during the experimental phases of his solo career.
Youngjae has been very successful as a soloist with his massively popular debut “Vibin’” which accumulated over nine million views on YouTube. He has also appeared on So Not Worth It, a Netflix original show which aired last year. His future activities, as a result, are very unpredictable. For now, though, he fulfilled his mission to release a catchy rock-influenced track that is a change of pace for our summer playlists.
Although this comeback was released only a month after GOT7’s “NANANA,” Youngjae gave us a sweet mini-album to enjoy for months to come. Fans can watch the music video for “SUGAR” below.
