Maggie Rogers Gives an Amazing Performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Happy Surrender week. Ahead of the release of her sophomore album, Maggie Rogers made a quick pit stop at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, July 26, to perform “Want Want.” This marked Rogers’ debut late-night television performance.
Maggie Rogers performed the second single off Surrender and we could not have loved it more. “Want Want” followed the previous single, “That’s Where I Am.” She released “Horses” on July 14. The singer’s performance was full of energy, and she even paid homage to her “Want Want” music video. She dons an electric blue bob in the initial video, and her Fallon performance featured bright blue lights that flashed before the viewer’s eyes.
“Want Want” is described as Rogers’ “sex + sensuality + desire anthem.” She elaborated more on this idea to Elle, revealing that, ‘Want Want’ has “to do with the full existence of living.” Rogers stated, “…pleasure is a really important way of being in relationship to the world. It is not something worth compromising or not talking about just because I have a public space, and I’m probably going to get some negative feedback.”
She continues, “Sensuality feels like a way of being in relationship to the world that leads with the senses, and that to me feels like a really important component of what it means to me to be an artist. To not speak fully to that practice or to that way of orienting yourself towards the world—in order to embrace my full existence as a woman, it felt really important to talk about that or to acknowledge that part of it.”
Rogers announced the Surrender setlist back in June. Here are the songs on the 12-track record:
- “Overdrive”
- “That’s Where I Am”
- “Want Want”
- “Anywhere With You”
- “Horses”
- “Be Cool”
- “Shatter”
- “Begging For Rain”
- “I’ve Got A Friend”
- “Honey”
- “Symphony”
- “Different Kind Of World”
