Class Is Back in Session for New Season of Abbott Elementary
Mark your calendars, because the second season of ABC’s Abbott Elementary comes out on Wednesday, September 21.
On August 17, the series’ official Twitter account announced the release date and posted the official poster for the second season. The poster features the main cast posing in the back of a school bus, with Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) standing in the center.

A new promo video for the upcoming season was also released on August 17. Lisa Ann Walter, the actress who plays Melissa Schemmenti, reposted the promo video on Twitter with the caption “Even our promo deserves an award. Y’all ready?”

The popular show was renewed for a second season back in March. The series also released a letter on Instagram from Abbott Elementary’s very own principal, Ava Coleman (Janelle James) to let fans know of the great news, that the show would be returning for a second season. “It is with great pleasure that I share they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year!” the memo read. “That’s right – Abbott Elementary Season Two is coming to a screen near you.”
Abbott Elementary is a comedy series that follows a group of elementary school teachers working in one of the worst public schools in America. The main cast includes Quinta Brunson (Big Mouth), Tyler James Williams (Dear White People), Janelle James (Central Park), Lisa Ann Walter (The Parent Trap), Chris Perfetti (Crossbones), and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha).
Since its release in December 2021, Abbott Elementary broke many records in its first season. The show was nominated for five Emmy awards this year, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Quinta Brunson, the writer and main character of the show, made history as the youngest Black woman to be nominated in an acting category for comedy in the Primetime Emmys.
