I wanna thank God & my vocal coach for getting me here 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/tvG6fzqpXD
Opening the performance, Lizzo sang a short snippet of her hit song “About D*mn Time.” Following, she asks the audience, “Alright, Grammys. Y’all trying to have some church up in here?” She then transformed the stage into a gospel-infused version of her hit song “Special” with her choir draped in gold. She touched the audience with her voice by singing, “In case nobody told you today, you’re special.”
Following the stunning performance, the host, Trevor Noah, was amazed. “You don’t see that every day. Every single time she hits the stage, It’s phenomenal.” He adores her and continues, “I need to get me one of those gospel choirs. I love her. She’s like, if dopamine was a person.”
Lizzo is the first Black woman to hold the Grammy Award for Record of the Year since Whitney Houston in 1994. “About D*mn Time” is the 2023 Award-Winning Record of the Year. This was a big night for Lizzo, who was nominated for five awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal, Song of the Year and Best Solo Performance, and Record of the Year. Beyoncé leads the nights with a total of nine nominations.
Remember Divas, like @lizzo said , “if nobody told you today, you’re so special and I’m glad you’re still with us.” #Grammys2023
