Lana Del Rey and her father, Rob Grant are collaborating for his debut album, Lost At Sea.

While Del Rey has been making music for over a decade, her father has recently joined her in the music industry with his debut album, Lost At Sea.

He released his track “Setting Sail On A Distant Horizon” earlier last week. The single is a soft piano instrumental that remains both somber and hopeful. His elegant yet emotional melodies foreshadow an incredibly talented album to come, and it will be if Del Rey’s renowned discography is any indicator. The 14-track album is set to release on June 9, as the musician stated in an Instagram post.

Grant’s piano prowess is impressive, yet according to his own album description, he has “no formal training at all.” Instead, “when he sits down at a piano, something magical happens.” The whimsy of his music is part of the attraction. With no previous discography of his own, fans can only be excited for what is next to come.

The visualizer for the album features Grant’s boat, which he cites as inspiration for the song. According to The Rolling Stone, his experiences sailing to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard influenced the track. The motifs of sailing, the ocean, and the piano are reminiscent of Del Rey’s most recent albums. Norman F**king Rockwell features Del Rey on a yacht, while Blue Banisters was filled with piano medleys. It seems that beautiful visuals and moving instrumentals run in the family.

Already the single has become recognized as a hit. Apple Music has added it to a “New In Classical” playlist, which Grant thanked them for in a tweet.

Del Rey has never shied away from her close relationship with her father. As she wrote in an Instagram post, “he has always been the star.” While some thought the post was related to her newest album, fans were pleasantly surprised by Grant’s endeavors. Her dedication to her father has been present in many of her songs through the years. Famously, she stated in her song Cola, “I pledge allegiance to my dad / for teaching me everything he knows.”

Those that are involved in the production include Del Rey herself, as she is featured on two unreleased songs. Fans anticipate that she may add vocals to the instrumental tracks. Jack Antonoff, who is currently working with Del Rey on her album, is also credited.

Fans can stream “Setting Sail On A Distant Horizon” on Spotify and Apple Music. Lost At Sea will be released on June 9 on the same streaming services.
