A New Featurette for Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant Reveals Film’s Powerful Meaning
An impactful new featurette for Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant just debuted, elaborating on the vital stories the film aims to share with its audiences.
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant follows U.S. Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and an Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim) on a compelling journey during wartime in Afghanistan. After Ahmed goes to extreme lengths to save Kinley’s life following an ambush, Kinley learns that Ahmed’s family was not provided with the safe passage to America they were promised. Determined to repay Ahmed for saving his life, Kinley returns to the war zone where he must outrun the Taliban to reach Ahmed and his family.
In the latest featurette for the film, “Battle Ready,” Gyllenhaal and Salim explain the importance of retelling the stories of interpreters. Interviews with the cast and crew, U.S. veterans, and military advisors are mixed in with clips from the movie to elaborate on the motivation behind the project. Guy Ritchie also appears in the featurette where he explains, “The deal was after the war, the interpreters would end up in America and this story is about the responsibility to fulfill that debt.”

Guy Ritchie is one of my favorite directors. It feels surreal that we are treated with two of his films in a little over a month? #TheCovenant pic.twitter.com/ARZdLOUtEv
