A new species of snake has been named after Hollywood Icon Harrison Ford. Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark began fans’ undying love for archeologist Indiana Jones.

The journey began when the film was made in 1981, delivering an enjoyable action-adventure-packed ride. In addition to the epic action sequences, many will fondly remember the hilarious scene of Indy (Harrison Ford) expressing his hatred for snakes.

Researchers have recently discovered a new snake species in Peru’s Andes Mountains. The discovery comes during a bittersweet time, as fans have said goodbye to the beloved archeologist. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) is the fifth and final installment of the iconic franchise. The last film starred Ford, Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), and Ethann Isidore (The Passengers).

The snake species is called Tachymenoides Harrisonfordi and measures 16 inches long. The snake pays homage to Ford’s character. The reptile is described as a “pale yellowish-brown with scattered black blotches, a black belly, and a vertical streak over his copper-colored eye, making it well-camouflaged to the surrounding environment.”

Researchers named the snake after Ford to honor his decades-long environmental advocacy. The actor gave a hilarious response once he found out the news. He states, “These scientists keep naming critters after me, but it’s always the ones that terrify children. I don’t understand. I spend my free time cross-stitching. I sing lullabies to my basil plants so that they won’t fear the night.”

He continued, “In all seriousness, this discovery is humbling. It’s a reminder that there’s still so much to learn about our wild world — and that humans are one small part of an impossibly vast biosphere.”

In addition to the snake discovery, Ford has also gone on to inspire the name of an ant (Pheidole Harrisonfordi) and a spider (Calponia Harrisonfordi).

Congratulations to Harrison Ford on this incredible honor. Fans can watch the first four Indiana Jones films now on Disney+. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is currently playing in theaters.
