A recent Beckham Netflix interview reveals fashion icon Victoria Beckham’s new classic trend.

Button it like Beckham. Why not? Everyone else is. The moment the documentary graced the public eye, it seemed like a mere instant before every at-home fashion enthusiast fell head over heels for Victoria Beckham’s effortlessly elegant, crisp white button-up. Who could resist its charm?

Victoria Beckham is seen casually sitting on top of a lush velvet couch in a lavishly decorated living area. Her hair is pulled into an off-the-clock messy bun while wearing denim and an XL white button-up. She exemplified a personified vision of the lifestyle many women aspire to live. Hence, sales of oversized white button-ups escalated shortly after the documentary’s release.

“Just as her husband’s 00s buzzcut inspired hordes of his fans to pick up the clippers, this time around the Beckham effect is causing trend spotters to seek out collars and cuffs for their autumn wardrobes,” stated Chloe Mac Donnell from The Guardian.

Women everywhere are investing in a supersized white shirt. However, not long ago, finding the perfect white shirt was like trying to find the perfect pair of jeans. Virtually impossible.

Thankfully, the fashion industry progressively filled some of the gaps in the market since then. Many brands whose sole purpose was to fill said gaps have seen a significant increase in sales. “A spokesperson for John Lewis says sales of its £45 relaxed cotton white shirt have quadrupled week on week,” stated Mac Donnell.

If Victoria Beckham’s influence wasn’t enough to sway consumers to the trend, runway shows certainly will. “Couture fashion shows are normally known for glamorous gowns but at the Valentino show in July it was an image of Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber, in an oversized toothpaste-white shirt that went viral,” mentioned Mac Donnell.

Brands like palmer//harding, With Nothing Underneath, and Frank & Eileen are beautiful examples of women’s button-ups. The focus these brands place on specializing in such a specific product allows a better range of adjustment in sizing and structure of silhouettes. “I was frustrated with an underserviced women’s shirt market,” stated former Vogue stylist Pip Durell for The Guardian. “I wanted to bridge that gap and give the sort of middle offering that men have always had–quality shirts at an accessible price,” continued Durell.

Hopefully, this classic trend will stick around for a while.
