Studiocanal just dropped the first look and release date news for the highly anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black.

The Amy Winehouse biopic, titled Back to Black, is on the way. This film is based on the iconic singer’s life, known for her amazing vocals, creative artistry, and struggle with addiction. This is a battle she sadly lost in 2011 at just the age of 27. Moreover, the filming of this biopic started in January this year.

The film has also been approved by the Amy Winehouse estate, and her father, Mitch Winehouse. Furthermore, the film will include Amy’s biggest hits after the approval of Universal Music Group, and Sony Music Publishing.

Back to Black directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, features British actor Marisa Abela, known for her role as Yasmin in Industry. Additionally, Ryan O’Doherty is set to portray Chris Taylor, Amy’s ex-boyfriend who inspired the track “Stronger Than Me” in her album Frank.

The director, Sam Taylor-Johnson has also previously directed Nowhere Boy and Fifty Shades of Grey. In addition, the script for Back to Black was written by Matt Greenhalgh, who previously worked with Taylor-Johnson on Nowhere Boy back in 2009.

The logline for the biopic states, “Back to Black will focus on Amy’s extraordinary genius, creativity, and honesty that infused everything she did. A journey that took her from the craziness and color of 90’s Camden High Street to global adoration, and back again, Back to Black crashes through the looking glass of celebrity to watch this journey from behind the mirror, to see what Amy saw, to feel what she felt.”

The film is set to be released in the UK and Poland on April 12, 2024, followed by Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia on April 18, and France and New Zealand the next week.
