Selena Gomez is slowly pulling the reins on her music career. During an episode of the SmartLess podcast, the singer divulged her plans to possibly stop creating new music.

“The older I get, the more I’m kind of like, ‘I would like to find something to just settle on,’” she stated in the episode. “I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting.” After podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett told her she didn’t have to choose between singing and acting, Gomez responded, “You’re right, but I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.”

The actress began her singing career during her Disney days. After being cast as Alex Russo for Wizards of Waverly Place, the company wanted her to sing the theme song.

“Disney is, it’s safe to say, a machine and, in a way, forcefully require that I know how to sing so I could sing the theme song [of a show]. They know how to package someone and make it a whole triple threat thing,” she revealed.

However, she never planned on becoming a singer. “I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer full-time, but apparently that hobby turned into something else. I don’t think I’m the best singer, but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs.”

From there, Gomez began her singing career. In 2008, Selena Gomez & The Scene formed. They dropped catchy pops, such as “Naturally,” “A Year Without Rain,” and “Love You Like A Love Song.” In addition, they released three albums in four years. Eventually, the band broke up in 2013 and Gomez focused on her solo career. At first, the “Lose You To Love Me” singer enjoyed making music. However, juggling acting, singing, and running Rare Beauty took a toll on her mental health.

“I went to a mental institute and canceled one of my tours,” she shared. “It just got to me because I love working, and it distracts me from bad things.”

It is unknown when Gomez will drop her new album. In 2023, she released her new track “Single Soon.” In the meantime, Gomez’s music can be streamed on all streaming platforms. The episode from the SmartLess podcast will be released on January 7 but is available on Wonder+.
