Ishana Night Shyamalan dropped the trailer for her debut film, The Watchers. The horror film stars Dakota Fanning, Olwen Fouéré, and Georgina Campbell.

Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of famous director M. Night Shyamalan, is making a name for herself in the film industry, yet following in her father’s footsteps with her new horror film The Watchers. She is accredited as an art assistant on Greyson Horst’s short film, The Holloway Picture, a writer on six episodes and director on nine episodes of Tony Basgallop’s Servant, and as assistant director on her father’s film, Old.

The film is based on the novel The Watchers by Irish author A.M. Shine. The novel focuses on Mina, whose car breaks down at the treeline of a forest, which isn’t noted on any map. Now stranded in an unfamiliar place with no working car, her only option is to enter the forest to seek help. Instead, a woman finds Mina, shouting at her to run to a concrete shelter. She enters this room containing four strangers. It has a wall of glass and an electric light that activates once night has fallen. Creatures called the Watchers come out of hiding. They observe the humans in the bunker while dealing with the people who didn’t reach the shelter in time.

In the trailer, Mina, portrayed by Fanning, sits in a room surrounded by the forest. A vinyl produces music while Campbell’s character dances along. As the TV runs in the background, Mina gets up from the couch and starts tapping the glass window. With each tap, viewers get a flashing glimpse of the forest trapping the group. Mina hears noises outside and asks what it is. Madeline, embodied by Fouéré, tells her it’s applause for her. Finally, in the closing scene, audiences see a man dragged into a hole within the forest ground by invisible forces.

The Watchers expected release date is on June 7. In the meantime, audiences can purchase the book here while anticipating the film. You can watch the official trailer below.
