Jolie walked the red carpet with her 15-year-old  daughter, Vivienne, who was named producer assistant for the Broadway musical. Jolie acknowledged the insights and ideas her daughter gave helped make the musical memorable. Vivienne encouraged her mother to stage The Outsiders in La Jolla, CA. Danya Taymor told the crowd, “To all the young artists out there who want to create, what some may perceive as a weakness or a liability in you might just be your super power.” Additionally, “Don’t be afraid to trust your gut. Artistic risk yields rewards.”

The Outsiders: A New Musical has blown up on social media, especially “The Rumble” dance section. With its dramatic lighting and synchronized punches, viewers were in awe of the production. Watching the beautiful story unfold through the actor’s performance created the true essence of the original novel.

The Outsiders: A New Musical is, as described by it’s website, a “beloved story that defined a generation. Reimagined as a groundbreaking new musical.” The musical is an adaptation of the classic young adult novel about the conflicts between two high school gangs. Set in 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Outsiders is written by best-selling author S.E. Hinton. Additionally, it was adapted into a film in 1983, and now schools around the US teach this historical story in their classrooms.

The musical “features some of the most effectively vivid violence seen on a Broadway stage, using a mix of fight choreography, strobe-like lighting and percussive sound design to evoke the brutality pervading these adolescent lives.”
