Rex Orange County, the multi-instrumentalist renowned for his hit “Pluto Projector,” has announced his upcoming album, The Alexander Technique

Known for his ability to play guitar and piano, Rex’s musical talent is evident in his discography, including albums like Apricot Princess (2017), Pony (2019), and Who Cares? (2022). His music, characterized by its introspective lyrics, intricate melodies, and unique blend of indie, pop, and R&B, often explores vulnerability, mental health, romance, and self-discovery, resonating deeply with his audience.

The announcement on Instagram featured a backdrop of zen music, suggesting a new, tranquil sound. The Japanese-inspired Minka room, a serene and minimalist space often found in traditional Japanese homes, hints at a fusion of Japanese elements in his music. This aligns with a broader trend of Japanese artists like Yuki Chiba, Loco, and BabyTron making significant impacts on the Billboard charts through collaborations with prominent artists.

Yuki Chiba, already established in the Japanese hip-hop scene, earned his first crossover hit in the United States with Megan Thee Stallion’s “Mamushi,” a bilingual track where Stallion raps in Japanese. Loco’s track with Jimin, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band,” debuted on the Hot 100, and BabyTron reached the charts with Eminem’s “Tobey,” also featuring Big Sean.

Megan Thee Stallion’s self-titled album, Megan, showcases her unique appreciation for Japanese culture. In addition to “Mamushi” with Yuki Chiba, the album includes “Otaku Hot Girl,” reflecting her love for anime and Japanese media. These elements highlight a growing fusion between American and Japanese music, creating a rich, cross-cultural tapestry in the industry.

County’s new album promises to be another introspective journey, offering a glimpse into the serenity he has found during his hiatus. His ability to blend heartfelt lyrics with intricate melodies has earned him a dedicated following, and fans are eagerly awaiting The Alexander Technique. Moreover, the new album is a unique auditory experience that promises to be unlike anything he’s done before.

In anticipation of the album, the “One in a Million” artist revamped his website with a medically-inspired theme. The page features a clock with hands pointing to 4:00, indicating the album’s release time. An email log for updates is presented as a Patient Intake Form, inviting fans to stay informed about his music, tour, and merchandise. This innovative approach has not only amplified excitement for The Alexander Technique but also engaged fans in a unique way, promising a one-of-a-kind auditory experience.

County continues pushing his musical boundaries, exploring new sounds and themes. His forthcoming album, coupled with the rising influence of Japanese artists in the music industry, signals an exciting time for fans and highlights the dynamic nature of contemporary music.
