Netflix Confirms Stranger Things Season 5 Is on the Way
Netflix confirmed that the thriller series Stranger Things will return for its fifth and final season. On Wednesday, November 6, the streaming service dropped a teaser for season five of the series in honor of Stranger Things Day.
The final season announcement comes on the day the character Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) went missing from Hawkins, Indiana, and was trapped in the Upside Down. As depicted in the 2016 pilot episode “The Vanishing of Will Byers,” this is considered to be November 6, 1986.
Season five is set to be released in 2025 and consists of eight episodes. The streamer has already dropped the titles of the upcoming episodes, with some new, and others alluding to previous titles. The titles of the new episodes are: “The Crawl,” “The Vanishing of _____,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and “The Rightside Up.”
The setting of the final season will be in the fall of 1987, a year after the events of season four when the villain, Vecna, broke up the town of Hawkins. Production on season five was announced in January when Netflix shared a photo of the entire cast and the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, giving Stranger Things fans anticipation for what’s about to come in the final season.
Thus, based on the episode titles, there is much to look forward to in the upcoming season. For example, the final episode of season five, “The Rightside Up,” is the reverse of the season one finale, “The Upside Down,” the eerie alternate dimension that haunts Hawkins, Indiana.
The Duffer brothers have anticipated fans of what’s expected in the new season for the series. The fan favorites such as Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder will return. However, fans should also look forward to new cast members such as Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux.
The plotline for the upcoming season will center around Will Byers with the return of the villain from season four, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Much is in the works for the final season of the well-renowned series.
