Netflix Ordered Little House on the Prairie Reboot
Get ready to head back to the prairie; a Little House on the Prairie reboot is in the works, bringing a fresh take on the beloved classic for a new generation.
The series was originally produced by Ed Friendly at Friendly Family Productions. Trip Friendly, the producer’s son, has long expressed his desire to carry on his father’s legacy. Now, his vision for a reboot aimed at a new generation may finally come to life. Author Laura Ingalls Wilder originally wrote Little House on the Prairie as a book. The reboot aims to bring the classic to new generations while connecting book fans with fans of the original series.
The reboot will live on Netflix when it premieres. With this news surfacing on the internet, we’ve also learned that Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
The beloved stories told in the original series explored themes of family, community, and survival. Netflix announced that CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Productions will produce the reboot, following the story of Charles Ingalls, his wife Caroline, and their daughters Laura and Mary. The series will follow this family as they leave Wisconsin to settle in Independence, Kansas.
Trip Friendly’s father acquired the rights to the Wilder novels for a reboot in 2020. While the project was initially rejected, Friendly remained optimistic that it would move forward. To his surprise, Netflix officially approved the series just before the holidays.
