Kendrick Lamar secured five new Grammys with hit single Not Like Us at this year’s award show in Los Angeles

The diss track, considered a mic drop in the ongoing feud between Lamar and fellow rapper Drake, earned him multiple awards:

  • Song of the Year
  • Record of the Year
  • Best Rap Song
  • Best Rap Performance
  • Best Music Video

“Not Like Us” quickly rose to superstardom when it hit one billion listens on Spotify and debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 100. The track then spent two consecutive weeks as the top song on the Billboard Top 100 and sat at the top spot for 21 weeks leading up to this year’s award show.

After he won Record of the Year, he received an immediate standing ovation as the crowd sang to his track while he walked onto the stage for his speech. During his speech, he expressed his gratitude for the city of Los Angeles and explained that his win would be dedicated to the city he grew up in.

“Compton, Long Beach, Inglewood, Hollywood out to the valley,” the artist added. “This is my neck of the woods that held me down since I was a young pup in the studio scrapping the best raps to do records like these.”

He closed out his speech by explaining what this award means to Los Angeles. “This is a true testament that they will continue to restore the city.”

Later, he returned to the stage for his Song of the Year award speech. This time, he gave a special shout-out to fellow West Coast artists Jay Z, G Malone, Problem, and Bad Luck, who all inspired him to be the artist he is today.

“This is what it’s about because nothing is more powerful than rap music. I don’t care what it is; we are the culture; it will always stay here and live forever,” he concluded.

After the ceremony “Not Like Us,” producer DJ Mustard explained how proud he was of Lamar and the song’s success. Mustard explained that he believes the success will carry over to February 9 when Lamar takes center stage in New Orleans for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show.

“He’s going to bring a fu**ing monster show,” Mustard added. “He’s one of the greatest artists of all time in my book and he’s one of the greatest performers of all time.”

“So I expect nothing but the best; he’s incredible,” he concluded  You can stream “Not Like Us” on all streaming platforms.
