Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress celebrated for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has passed away at 39.

Trachtenberg was discovered unresponsive on February 26 in her New York City apartment near Columbus Circle by her mother.

The actress had undergone a liver transplant within the past year, but sources suggest her body may have rejected the organ. They also confirmed that she passed away of natural causes.

The NYPD confirmed she was found “unconscious and unresponsive” by police and later pronounced dead by EMS. Authorities responded to the building after a 911 call reported a woman experiencing cardiac arrest.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,” released in a statement from the star’s representative. “The family requests privacy during this time of loss. No further details are available at this moment.”

The actress starred as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the title character portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, in 66 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 2000 to 2003.

“Michelle touched a generation of television fans throughout her career, including in her unforgettable role as the independent and strong-willed Dawn Summers in Buffy, read a statement from Fox Television, which produced Buffy, released on Wednesday.

The statement continued: “She brought depth, heart, and authenticity to every performance and will be remembered for her remarkable talent.Our sincere condolences go out to her family and friends — she will be deeply missed. “

Trachtenberg remained active in acting, taking on roles in Sexy Evil Genius, The Scribbler, and Sister Cities. Her latest appearance was in the 2021 revival of Gossip Girl.

Her legacy is evident and can now be honored on our screens.
