One word, five letters: sparks. Sparks are about to fly on the Upper East Side as Michelle Trachtenberg is set to reprise her role as the devious Georgina Sparks on the new season of Gossip Girl.

In a new teaser posted to Twitter, we see the camera pan to an empty theatre and slowly zooms in on Georgina, applauding at an unknown, probably a fire she started. During the four-second teaser, the phrase, “It only takes one spark to start a fire,” flashes across the screen, and the caption reads, “And I have a feeling this city is about to burn.”

Immediately after the teaser was posted, Gossip Girl’s showrunner Joshua Safran tweeted, “The cat has escaped the bag – thank Jesus!”

Georgina made her first appearance in the season one episode “Desperately Seeking Serena,” where we met her as Serena’s partying partner-in-crime. Their previous behavior led them both to a tragic loss. After that, Georgina made occasional appearances to either team up with or went against the non-judging breakfast comprised of Blair, Serena, Chuck, and Nate.

While excited, fans did suspect Georgina’s return as her son Milo made a cameo in season one. For those who may not remember, at the end of the original series season three finale, Georgina was pregnant and passed him off as Dan Humphrey’s son until she took him away in season four.

We last saw Georgina in the series finale five-year flash-forward where she was dating Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington), a surprising yet appropriate pairing. There is no word yet about Jack’s return, but fans can only hope.

This reprisal is just one of the many cameos fans have seen throughout the reboot. Last season, we saw appearances by Blair’s minion Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang), her maid Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski), as well as her mom Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin) and stepdad Cyrus Rose (Wallace Shawn).

Prepare for Georgina’s return by watching the original Gossip Girl and season one of the reboot on HBO Max, XOXO.
