Kering and the Cannes Film Festival will present this year’s Women in Motion Award to renowned actress and producer Nicole Kidman. She will receive the award from Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault, Cannes president Iris Knobloch, and director Thierry Frémaux held during the festival.

Created in 2015, the award recognizes female artists, both on and off the screen, who advance women’s place in cinema and society. As the tenth recipient, Kidman joins NBCUniversal Studio Group chair and CEO Donna Langley, Jane Fonda, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, Isabelle Huppert, Patty Jenkins, Gong Li, Salma Hayek Pinault, Viola Davis, and Michelle Yeoh.

Kidman accepts the award, expressing, “I am proud to join this list of extraordinary women who’ve received this honor before me—artists and trailblazers I deeply admire. The Cannes Film Festival has been a part of my life for over 30 years and I am thrilled to add this incredible recognition to the many memories I’ve made here.”

The Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG-winning actress and producer will return to the Cannes Festival for the first time in eight years. She last attended the festival in 2017, when she was honored with the 70 year Anniversary Prize.

Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault explains her recognition this year by noting, “For this anniversary edition of Women In Motion, Nicole Kidman, who fully embodies the spirit of the program, was an obvious choice. Through her artistic standards, her committed choices and her concrete action to change representations in cinema, she is a powerful illustration of what Women In Motion has been defending for a decade.”

Kidman has embodied powerful roles in iconic films Eyes Wide Shut, Dogville, The Hours, The Others, Birth, and, most recently, Babygirl. Her characters contradict stereotypes and widen the representation of women on screen.

General Delegate of the Cannes Festival Thierry Frémaux further illuminates, “Nicole Kidman is an immensely talented actress. Her rich filmography, of which she is the patient author, and her masterful, unsettling performances have left their mark on the history of contemporary cinema. She has worked with the most emblematic directors, lending them her versatility and infinite sensitivity. Role after role, and with the nuances, strengths, and flaws specific to each character, she has portrayed women who break free from their shackles.”

In addition to her roles, Kidman is also a strong social activist. As a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and UN Women, she uses her influence to defend the rights of women and children worldwide.
