Tems, the Nigerian singer-songwriter, is taking the world by storm with her blend of Afrobeats, soul, and R&B, hitting one milestone at a time.

Chart-Topping Success and Global Recognition

Her quick rise to fame began with the 2020 Wizkid collaboration “Essence,” which became a global sensation and earned her a Grammy nomination. In 2022, she made history by becoming the first African female artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Future and Drake on the hit “Wait for U,” which sampled her song “Higher.”

In June 2024, Tems released her debut full-length album “Born in the Wild” through RCA Records and Since ’93. The 18-track project, which includes features from J. Cole and Asake, received lots of praise and secured three Grammy nominations, including Best Global Music Album. The album explores themes of freedom, resilience, and love, solidifying Tems’ place as one of the most influential voices in modern African music.

Tems has also crossed streaming milestones. “Wait for U” helped her become the first African-born female artist to reach 1 billion Spotify streams for a single song. In 2024, her single “Love Me JeJe” won Best African Music Performance at the Grammys, a major moment she shared with her mother, who joined her at the ceremony.

A Cultural Force with Unmatched Influence

Beyond the charts, Tems is breaking barriers in fashion, business, and representation. She is the first African-born woman to hold ownership stakes in Major League Soccer (MLS), signaling her growing influence outside music. Her ability to merge personal authenticity with international appeal has made her a symbol of African pride.

On stage, her presence is magnetic. During her “Born in the Wild” tour, fans- from New York to London—have connected deeply with her music. Despite her fast-moving lifestyle, Tems remains grounded through daily self-care rituals and a deep sense of purpose.

At 29, Tems has already redefined what it means to be a global artist. Her impact continues to grow, as she balances chart-topping hits with heartfelt storytelling that resonates worldwide.
