Jenna Ortega has been cast as Wednesday Addams, Tim Burton’s iconic character, in Netflix’s live-action Addams Family series. The show will be a young adult coming-of-age comedy that focuses on Wednesday’s life as a student at Nevermore Academy. She will be building on the psychic abilities and monster hunting her parents on top of navigating her new, messy relationships.

This will mark Burton’s live-action show directing debut. He will also executive produce alongside Gough and Millar (who are showrunners on the series) TV writer and producer Kayla Alpert, former MGM TV President Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman. Wednesday is produced by MGM Television.

Christina Ricci is passing down the Wednesday torch. Ricci played the character in The Addams Family in 1991 and the sequel Addams Family Values in 1993. These are some big shoes to fill for this well-known character, but from the looks of it Fox’s Rake, CW’s Jane the Virgin, Netflix’s You, Disney Channel’s Stuck In The Middle, Yes Day have prepared her well for this role.

Some of her upcoming work and recent feature credits include starring in The Fallout and the upcoming Scream. At such a young age, Ortega has a lot of experience under her belt as she steps into the role of Wednesday. She is repped by Gilbertson Entertainment, CAA, and Jeff Hynick of Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

The star recently shared a photo of herself with the script on Instagram, which led to delight from fans. For more updates on the series, follow Ortega on Instagram.
