The movie takes place following the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home when Mysterio reveals Spider-Man’s identity. Tom Holland returns as the beloved Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Zendaya’s Michelle (“MJ”) by his side.

“Now that everybody knows, you don’t really have to hide or lie to people,” MJ tells Peter in the trailer.

“This isn’t about me,” Peter replies. “This is hurting a lot of people.”

For the first time in Marvel’s history, Spider-Man finds himself unmasked before the world. No longer able to keep his super-hero counterpart from his identity as Peter Parker, he enlists the help of Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

As revealed in the trailer, Peter asks Dr. Strange to alter the timeline (a dangerous feat shown to us in Loki), resulting in even more danger for our characters. With little hesitation, the sorcerer casts a spell to make the entire world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man (yes, even Ned, Aunt May, and MJ).

Quickly, the multiverse starts to malfunction, a concept which Dr. Strange warns “we know frighteningly little.”

“The problem is you trying to live two different lives… the longer you do it, the more dangerous it becomes,” Dr. Strange tells Peter upon casting the spell. “Be careful what you wish for, Parker.”

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands with Phase Four of the MCU, we begin to see our fated heroes tackle forces greater than themselves. Fans were shocked to see Alfred Molina return as Doctor Octopus in the trailer – a role he took in the 2004 Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire. So are the rumors of Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning true? We’ll find out soon in Spider-Man: No Way Home, directed by John Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Eric Sommers.

But what will this mean for our newest Spider-Man or his identity as Peter Parker? The movie is coming to theaters in just three months, but check out the trailer above for now.
