Justin Bieber returns to the VMA stage for the first time in six years to perform alongside Olivia Rodrigo, Chlöe, and Machine Gun Kelly. The award show will take place September 12 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Bieber’s last appearance on this stage was in 2015 when he shared an emotional and heartfelt rendition of his song ‘What Do You Mean?’ from the album Purpose. The singer admitted that the reason for this teary-eyed moment was largely due to his fans’ positive reaction to the performance. “It was just so overwhelming for me …” he told Jimmy Fallon after the fact. For Bieber and his fans, the moment truly felt “authentic and real.”

This year the pop-star is up for a handful of awards, including video of the year, artist of the year, and best cinematography. Many of these nominations have been garnered by his No. 1 hit song “Peaches,” a dreamy, soulful collaboration with artists Daniel Caesar and Giveon.

Although Justin has already racked up four “Moonperson” awards, including winning Best New Artist at his first VMAs appearance, this time around is a little different. This time the singer is nominated for the most awards out of the show’s whole star-studded line-up, a whopping seven.

Bieber, who released his sixth studio album Justice earlier this year, has not yet shared any plans for what the performance might hold, but there is no doubt that it will be nothing short of spectacular.

Viewers can look forward to other exciting things, including famed rapper Doja Cat hosting the show and the debut of a reimagined ‘Moonperson,’ designed by fine artist Kehinde Wiley. The event will also honor the victims of 9/11; they’re collaborating with a non-profit organization, 9/11 Day, to promote awareness in anticipation of the tragedy’s 20th anniversary.

You can vote for all your favorite artists, including Justin, online and watch the show on September 12, at 8 p.m. E.T.
