Drake Drops New Album ‘Certified Lover Boy’
Drake released his sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy on Friday, September 3, 2021 featuring countless artists and heartfelt lyrics.
It’s been three years since the rapper’s last album, and this time he centers many of the songs around 4-year-old son Adonis. Drake does not mention his son by name, but shares his co-parenting relationship with Sophie Brussaux as in “Champagne Poetry.”

Drake has made his journey into fatherhood quite public. When Brussaux shared that she was pregnant in 2017, Drake rushed to prove paternity and was accused later on of trying to “hide” his child. But the track “Papi’s Home” shows him reconciling with this past.
“I walked out on my only son,” Drake raps in “Papi’s Home.” “See your mother raised a fine young man. Daddy’s home. And I know I missed so much of your life.”

Along with the powerful themes of love and family, Certified Lover Boy features star-studded rappers and artists. Big names like Travis Scott, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, and more all show up on one of the twenty album singles.
The same day the album dropped, Drake released a music video for “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug. Out for just a day, the video already has almost three million views on YouTube.
But that’s not the most impressive stat of Drake’s latest album. According to Apple Music, Certified Lover Boy breaks the record for the most-streamed artists in a period of 24 hours.
The already successful album has been in the works for nearly two years now. Drake first announced in 2019 that he was working on a new album, but had delayed it due to COVID. An initial release was set for January 2021, but after sustaining a knee injury, was pushed back once more.
“I’m working on the album, I’ve been working on it for a while now,” Drake told Billboard back in April 2020. “I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL [in 2009.] And I made a great album out of that. Obviously, God has us all inside the house right now. Definitely, it’s the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time.”
