Emily Blunt proves once again that she can take on any role as she signs on to the biopic Oppenheimer from director Christopher Nolan. The Jungle Cruise actress joins Cillian Murphy for Universal Studios’ latest thriller.

Little else is known about Blunt’s role in the film. Meanwhile, Murphy is expected to play the lead role of Robert Oppenheimer. It will be an exciting reunion on set for the two actors, who recently shared the screen in A Quiet Place II. If the rumors are true, Blunt will portray Katherine (Kitty) Oppenheimer, an educated botanist, and the inventor’s wife.

Speaking of epic duos, Nolan is writing and directing the film alongside producer (and his wife) Emma Thomas. He plans to tell the story of Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb.”

“[it’s an] epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it,” Universal stated, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird. Interestingly, Oppenheimer serves as the first movie Nolan will work on outside of Warner Bros. Studios since 2002.

“Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas’ films have shattered the limits of what cinematic storytelling can achieve,” Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Donna Langley stated, according to IndieWire. “We are thrilled to be working alongside them on this exceptional and extraordinary project and are grateful for their shared passion and commitment to the theatrical experience.”

Now that Blunt has joined the cast, production is sure to be underway soon. Universal has set a release date for July 21, 2023, but that’s all we know for now. Stay up-to-date with more news about the project on Twitter.
