Olivia Rodrigo has done it again. The 18-year-old singer made her American Music Awards debut with a tender performance of her latest single off of her Sour album, “Traitor.”

After a glowing introduction from the show’s host, Rodrigo took the stage with a guitar in hand and an all-female band behind her to emulate the environment of the single’s music video. She walks through a white door frame, and the lights go up to reveal the dead flowers around her.

Rodrigo starts the song as soft as can be with the lyrics, “Brown guilty eyes and little white lies / Yeah, I played dumb, but I always knew / That you'd talk to her, maybe did even worse / I kept quiet, so I could keep you.”

Rodrigo starts the song as soft as can be with the lyrics, “Brown guilty eyes and little white lies / Yeah, I played dumb, but I always knew / That you’d talk to her, maybe did even worse / I kept quiet, so I could keep you.”

She kept the same softness throughout most of the song up until the bridge, where the music and her vocals picked up with the lyrics, “God, I wish that you had thought this through / Before I went and fell in love with you / When she’s sleeping in the bed we made / Don’t you dare forget about the way / You betrayed me.”

This performance was a complete 180 from her VMA’s performance of “Good 4 U,” which was loud, upbeat, and one big party. Instead, Rodrigo scaled back the production and dance breaks to focus on her vocals and the overall emotion of the song.

It’s safe to say that she was successful in her mission as we were all in our feels watching her.

Not only did Rodrigo give a stellar performance, but she was also the most nominated artist of the night with seven and walked away with “New Artist of the Year.” 2021 has been a massive year for Olivia Rodrigo, and with Grammy nominations just around the corner, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see her name somewhere in the mix.
