Amazon Prime Kicks off World Premiere of New Series ‘Harlem’

Amazon Prime kicks off its weekend-long event in New York City to promote the premiere of the upcoming comedy series Harlem. What better place to host the festivities than at the historic Harlem Parish? Familiar faces and cast appearances are expected at the event, dubbed “Harlem Ever After.”

Sticking true to Harlem‘s themes of Black female empowerment in the arts, the event highlights Black female creators and entrepreneurs. This includes murals painted by local artists, interactive elements, music, and local food.

“With ‘Harlem Ever After,’ we knew that we wanted to integrate culture and marketing,” Ukonwa Ojo, Prime Video global chief marketing officer, told Variety. “Consumers are embracing more in-person experiences. We’ve all been in the comfort of our homes for a while, and I think we’re eager to communicate with people in person again.”

The event caps off with the world premiere of Harlem, an original Amazon Prime series centering around “four stylish and ambitious best girlfriends in Harlem NYC, the mecca of Black culture in America.” Entering their 30s, these women must navigate changing relationships, careers, and life in New York.

Meagan Good, Grace Byers, Shoniqua Shondai, and Jerrie Johnson portray the leading ladies of the series. Comedy legend Amy Poehler serves as executive producer. Harlem is the creation of Tracy Oliver, who recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly on what inspired her.

“A lot of shows that are faced with women in their twenties show your twenties as the time that you’re young and you’re crazy and you’re figuring it out,” Oliver told EW. “But then, by the time you reach your thirties, you should just have it all mapped out. I was like, ‘But I’m in my thirties and I don’t have everything together.'”

Think Sex and the City for a new age. “Harlem Ever After” is open to the public beginning December 3. No need to worry if you can’t attend, be sure to stream Harlem on Amazon Prime that same day. For now, check out the trailer above.
