Wednesday Season 2 is Now in Production

The hit supernatural Netflix series Wednesday is set to return for season 2 and is officially in production. Here is everything you need to know.

The Emmy Award-winning television series, based on the iconic Adams Family film, made waves in the industry in 2022. In only its first season, the series was nominated for an astounding 12 Emmy categories and took home the win for 4 of them.

The official account for Wednesday Addams, the main character in the horror comedy series, tweeted a video teaser for the upcoming season. It features her pet hand, Thing, delivering scripts to the cast members’ dressing rooms, with the tweet’s caption reading, “Here we woe again.”

We see familiar names on the doors and exciting new ones. Returning cast members include Jenna Ortega, reprising her main role as Addams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, promoted to a series regular, portraying her mother, Morticia. Emma Myers will also return as Enid Sinclair, Addams’ werewolf best friend and roommate who exudes sunshine and happiness, a complete contrast of the two. 

Season 1 premiered on Netflix on November 23, 2022, with all eight episodes released at once worldwide. It became the biggest series of the year, with the main character, Addams, as the most notable TV character that year and in 2023.

Ortega posted a photo of the announcement on Instagram, posing in a director’s chair in her signature two black braids and all-black and white outfit. Channeling her character’s monotone voice, she captioned the photo, “We’ve begun season two.”

After its release, social media trended, with her style inspiring new fashion trends in fans. Thousands of people posted videos of themselves doing her popular dance and children and adults dressed up like her. It wasted no time becoming a new favorite for many, and the announcement of season 2 is very exciting for everyone who watched it. 

Season 1 follows Addams, a mysterious, emotionless, and dark teenage girl who becomes a new student at Nevermore Academy, a school for the supernatural. She attempts to solve a murder while dealing with her psychic abilities, new friendships, and many twists and turns along the way. 

Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer will be returning to their regular roles. Percy Hynes White who portrayed Xavier will not return to the series, as well as his TV dad and the town’s sheriff, Jamie McShane.

Netflix tweeted a group photo of the cast sitting in the half-colorful, half-black-and-white dorm room that Addams and Meyers share.

Some new faces who will join the cast as series regulars include Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor. 

Netflix has also revealed a lineup of guest stars who will appear in the season, including Christopher Lloyd, who portrayed Uncle Fester in two of the original 90s films, Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo. 

Award-winning director Tim Burton will return to direct and executive production, and Ortega will also become a producer this season. They will be joined by Al Gough and Miles Millar, the showrunners, writers, and executive producers.

The series showrunners wrote, “We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces.”

Ortega previously dropped out of the upcoming Scream film due to scheduling conflicts, so now she can focus all of her attention on the new season. 

Season 1 was filmed in Romania due to its stunning, gothic architecture, which made it a perfect setting for the dark series. This time, filming is taking place in Ireland, a brand new setting.
