Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson are teaming up to host a special New Year’s Eve show in a few weeks, but first, the duo stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon giving fans a taste of what’s to come. Cyrus serenaded Davidson, the two joked and detailed their matching tattoos.

Cyrus led the show with a special cover of Yvonne Fair’s hit track “It Should Have Been Me.” She dedicated the song to Davidson, changing lyrics to reference his name and Staten Island: “Pete Davidson, how are you gonna do this to me?”

The duo joked around during the set and their on-screen chemistry is getting us excited for New Year’s Day. On Instagram, fans commented on Davidson’s response to the attention. “It’s Ok Pete, I would be nervous too being serenaded by the queen herself,” one user wrote on Miley’s post.

This isn’t the first time Cyrus and Davidson have worked together. Back in 2017, the pair appeared on a Saturday Night Live sketch called “The Baby Step.” It seems likes their friendship blossomed here, as the two discussed getting matching tattoos shortly after – thanks to Larry David who also appeared in the sketch.

“At the end, Larry David said, ‘What is going on?’ And we said, ‘We babies.’ And for some reason, we looked at each other and were like, ‘That’s a great tattoo,'” Cyrus told Fallon.

Their appearance on The Tonight Show was all to promote NBC’s upcoming celebration, Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party. Her decision to include Davidson as co-host means having “more variety in the show.” She followed by calling the SNL comedian the “funniest, coolest, hunkiest guy in the world.”

“In what is sure to be an exciting and fun evening, we are looking forward to partnering with Lorne Michaels and ringing in 2022 with a night of incredible entertainment, led by Miley and Pete,” Jen Neal, NBCUniversal executive vice president of live events, said in a statement.

The countdown to New Year’s is quickly approaching. But for now, be sure to watch Cyrus and Davidson on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon here.
