Florence Pugh may be dipping her toe into the science fiction world after news broke that she could be joining the cast of Dune: Part Two.

If Pugh accepts the role, she will play Princess Irulan Corrino where she will enter a romance with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet). The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is based on the 1965 book series. The second film will pick up where the first left off.

The Midsommar actress will not only star alongside Zendaya, but she will also get the chance to reunite with Timothee Chalamet, leaving fans more than excited. The pair previously played love interests in the 2019 adaptation of Little Women. She received her first Oscar nomination for her role as Amy March in the film.

The sci-fi film is set to release in October of 2023 which feels like ages away. However, Pugh has many upcoming projects, including A Good Person, presumed to be released in 2022, and Don’t Worry Darling with Harry Styles which is set to be released September 23.

Pugh has not accepted the role just yet, and there could be several reasons why. She is rumored to be Madonna’s first pick to play the icon herself in Madonna’s upcoming biopic, and the scheduling of the two movies could conflict. Also, the script for Dune has not been released yet, so Pugh could decline the role after reading it.

It’s safe to say Pugh would be perfect for the role, and fans would be ecstatic if she accepted, but for now, all that Dune fanatics can do is wait.

In the Oxford native’s latest project, she starred as Yelena in Marvel’s Black Widow and Disney+ series Hawkeye. Both Black Widow and Hawkeye can be streamed on Disney+.
