Halle Berry Is the New Recipient of the SeeHer Award at the Critics Choice Awards
Halle Berry received the 6th annual SeeHer Award for the Critics Choice Awards. The show aired on The CW on March 13.
Halle Berry, an Academy Award-winning actress, won the 2022 SeeHer Award: an honor that recognizes authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment pool and is given to women in film who aim to push past boundaries and defy stereotypes. This renowned award was presented to Berry by Insecure actress Issa Rae. Former recipients include other powerful females like Kristen Bell, Viola Davis, Claire Foy, Gal Gadot, and Zendaya.
Berry made her directorial debut in the film, Bruised. Many were blown away by her shocking transformation, where she effortlessly transitioned into UFC fighter Jackie Justice. Bruised is for lovers of the underdog, and Berry hopes more women continue to share their stories.
Berry’s impassioned speech raised the important issue of women’s struggles, highlighting the notion that all women need to be seen and heard despite any and every difference. She states, “If we deny our complexities, then we deny our humanity. We won’t always be pretty, and we will never be perfect, but what we will be is always honest and true — no matter how uncomfortable that makes you. These are the stories we have to fight to tell, and these are the stories that the world needs to see. So, to every little girl who feels unseen and unheard, this is our way of saying to you: We love you and we see you, and you deserve every good thing in this world.”
Her well-deserved SeeHer Award came just a few months after her win of the People’s Icon Award at the December People’s Choice Awards. The actress has consistently broken down barriers and paved the way for other Black women in film like with her historic Academy Award win of being the first Black woman to win “Best Actress.”
Congratulations to Halle Berry on an incredible honor. We cannot be prouder of her film accomplishments. Her directorial debut for her sports drama, Bruised, is available to stream on Netflix.
