The Met Gala challenges celebrities to dress for one of New York's biggest nights. The theme this year was Gilded Age. Corsets, long fluffy skirts, feathered-headed pieces, and classic updos were this period's fashion style. The Met Gala is celebrities' chance to be over the top, unique, and glammed out. This year's looks were unmatched and different than what we are used to.

Using fashion as an outlet to protest your rights is not new to the Met Gala. Last year’s theme was: In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Celebrities dressed in red, white, and blue while also addressing the police brutality witnessed in the nation. Paying respect to the people and institutions that most matter to these celebrities is what made the Met Gala 2022 spectacular.

This year’s Met Gala was all about legacy. Celebrity Riz Ahmed stated that his look respected all the immigrant workers who kept the gilded age going. Another powerful look was worn by the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, who wore a special tuxedo stating “End Gun Violence.” The Mayor partnered with N.Y.C-based Nigerian artist Laolu Senbanjo. The statement on the back of his tuxedo is the Mayor’s plan to reduce gun violence in New York City.

Celebrities like Teyana Taylor, Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys, and Mayor Eric Adams all hit the red carpet, ready to present the gilded glamour they had been preparing for months. Brands like Louis Vuitton, Iris van Herpen, Versace, and many more were represented on the carpet. Glitter had the opportunity to capture some of the best-glamoured looks from the night.
