Prepare to be blinded by the lights and The Weeknd himself; the long-awaited “After Hours Til Dawn” tour is just days away, and the XO team filled us in on what we needed to know.

The powerhouse “Kiss Me More” singer Doja Cat had to pull out of her opening act position due to a throat infection that led to two surgeries. At the time, Doja Cat took to her Instagram story to share her announcement that read, “Unfortunately, I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take a while due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

As expected, fans were highly disappointed at this news, but The Weeknd made sure to get not one but three exceptional opening acts to fill Doja’s spot. Amongst the artists are Swedish R&B artist Snoh Aalegra, Canadian soul singer Kaytranada, and hip-hop DJ/producer Mike Dean. Although several artists were interested, The Weeknd has a tradition of opening acts that are up-and-coming artists.

That is just the warm-up; The Weeknd promises a spectacular, concept-driven concert. The tour was supposed to take place in 2020 after the release of After Hours but was pushed back due to the outbreak of COVID. After the massive success of “Blinding Lights” and solo Superbowl Halftime performance, the postponed tour felt too small, so they scrapped it and took on a larger stadium tour.

The Weeknd’s Creative Director La Mar Taylor stated, “Maybe five percent of our original ‘After Hours’ production still remains for this tour. We really went back to the drawing board when we made the decision to switch from arenas to stadiums.” If you enjoyed his 2021 Superbowl Halftime, then you’re in for a treat because they used that performance as the foreground for the show.

Taylor mentioned, “There were so many restrictions and constraints around that performance that we could not fully realize the vision we had for it. Now we can…There is a linear story between ‘After Hours’ and ‘Dawn FM,’ and I think the audience will walk away with different interpretations of the show. To us, that’s the whole point.”

The “After Hours Til Dawn” tour runs from July 8 to September 3; be sure to grab tickets while you still can.
