The famous K-pop group, BTS, has announced that they will be taking a hiatus.

The group announced their decision to take a temporary break from musical activities in a tearful video posted to their YouTube channel. The band filmed the video during the streaming of their annual Festa Dinner, in which the members celebrate their founding as a group. The band was celebrating its ninth anniversary since debuting in 2013. Their official Twitter account also posted a link to the video.

The announcement comes shortly after one of their members, J-Hope, was announced to be headlining Lollapalooza 2022 in Chicago. The break will allow their seven members – Jungkook, V, Jimin, SUGA, Jin, RM, and J-Hope – the chance to explore their own solo endeavors.

Previously, when members pursued solo projects, only singles and mixtapes resulted. J-Hope released his solo mixtape titled Hope World in 2018 and dropped his single “Chicken Noodle Soup” in 2019. Jung Kook released his first solo single in February of this year titled “Stay Alive.” SUGA has not dropped his own music, but has been featured on several songs by himself, like the late Juice WRLD’s “Girl of My Dreams,” which was released last December. Jin, Jimin, and V also have their own songs.

With this break, the members are hoping to explore more about themselves, and come back together stronger than ever. During the video, J-Hope stated, “But I think we should spend some time apart to learn how to be one again. I think that timing is really important right now, so I hope you don’t see this as a negative thing.”

Jungkook stated, “We’re going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things. We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now, so I just hope that you could give us your blessing, that’s what I hope for.”

To say fans were heartbroken would be an understatement.

BTS has influenced so many lives since they were formed in 2010, forging their way into the hearts of many and sweeping the globe with their pop hits like “Butter,” “Dynamite,” and most recently “Yet To Come” from their new album Proof. Even in their sadness, however, fans still shared their gratitude for the group.

While fans are devastated by the disheartening news, they seem to be looking forward to seeing what each BTS member will do on their own and can’t wait to see what each will accomplish. Readers can learn more about BTS’ album here, which is only available in CD format. Fans can also watch the group’s announcement video below. Their music is available on all music streaming platforms.
