2022 is Avril Lavigne’s year: She released her seventh studio album, Love Sux, got engaged to Mod Sun in front of the Eiffel Tower, and celebrated 20 years in the music industry. Yes, that’s right. The Princess of Pop-Punk arrived on the pop-punk scene in 2002, releasing her iconic debut record, Let Go.

The year is not over yet, and it keeps on giving to Avril Lavigne. The “Sk8er Boi” hitmaker was honored with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 31. During her speech, she shared a photo of her younger self when she visited the landmark for the very first time. She recalls, “So, I’m 16 years old and I’m on my first trip to Hollywood, and of course, I had to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame because it’s iconic.”

The photo of Lavigne reveals the singer wearing a navy sweatshirt that reads, “skateboarding is not a crime.” As she continues telling her story, she made a quick change back into that iconic sweatshirt from all those years ago. The nostalgia is felt everywhere around the world. Lavigne adds, “I can remember seeing these legendary names, and I never could have imagined mine would be here. This is so crazy. I am so grateful. This is probably one of the coolest days of my life.”

Many were in attendance to honor Lavigne’s work, beginning with Mod Sun, producer and Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann, co-writer Lauren Christy, collaborator Machine Gun Kelly, Jxdn, Ryan Cabrera, and Joel Madden. Feldmann and MGK gave speeches. In a poignant part of MGK’s speech, he states, “You are an inspiration for a generation of kids like myself who wore baggy jeans and skated and didn’t fit into MTV’s version of what the girls wanted. And when you made ‘Sk8er Boi,’ that was the hope that we held onto.”

The Princess of Pop-Punk ended her speech with confidence, expressing, “Today, I love making music more than ever. I feel so inspired. And I hope that the next 16-year-old from their small town who comes to Hollywood one day, full of hopes and dreams, sees this star and thinks to themself, ‘Oh my god, my name could be there one day, too.’ Because it can.'” Lavigne ends her inspiring speech with “What an amazing 20 years, and I can’t wait for the next 20, b*tches! Let’s go!”

Congratulations to Avril Lavigne on her well-deserved recognition. Here at Glitter, we are so proud of her and wish her the best in her music career. Fans can watch her acceptance speech below.
