Ryan Reynolds to Be Honored at People’s Choice Awards
Ryan Reynolds will receive the People’s Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards. The actor will be the fifth recipient of the prestigious title.
The People’s Icon Award was first given out in 2018 after E! acquired the rights to the televised award ceremony from CBS. Melissa McCarthy was named the first People’s Icon last year. Other past recipients include Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, and Halle Berry.
On November 3, NBC Universal Television’s Senior Vice President, Cassandra Tyron announced in a press release that Reynolds would be receive the accolade next. Tryon declared, “In any endeavor — whether it’s acting, producing, marketing or business — Ryan Reynolds has the unique ability to create joy and authentically connect with his audience. He’s received many accolades over the years, but it’s these innate qualities that makes him so beloved.”
The Canadian star first appeared in the Nickelodeon series, Fifteen. Since then, he has starred in several blockbuster films such as The Proposal and The Adam Project. However, his most notable role was in Deadpool, starring as the titular comic book character. Reynolds was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Grammy award for his role as the Marvel anti-hero.

Reynolds’ next project is a holiday movie with Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer on Apple TV+. The film is called Spirited and is a new retelling of A Christmas Carol. Spirited will premiere on November 18 on the streaming platform.
