Ortega, who has garnered tons of new fans since Wednesday‘s release date less than two months ago, is still wrapping her head around the immediate virality of the series. Whether it’s the dark and twisted humor or the nostalgic memories of The Addams Family, there is no audience that this spin-off doesn’t appeal to.

Wednesday quickly climbed to the top of the charts. It is already ranked #3 in Netflix’s most-watched TV series, accumulating 1.24 billion hours of viewing time as of January 10. The series’ growth is so exponential that it has been renewed for a second season, and production for the new episodes has already begun, only a few weeks out from its debut.

There is no better fit than Ortega for the role of Wednesday. She nails everything from the twisted, blunt personality to the wildly impressive lack of blinking. The actress is simply captivating. Mirroring Wednesday’s constant staring, viewers can’t seem to take their eyes off of her.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon tells Ortega she is “phenomenal” when taking on the role of “dark” characters, noting her parts in the Scream movies alongside Wednesday. Ortega states, “It’s something about my face. Yeah, I don’t know what it is. People love seeing me scared.”

But among her long list of talents, one scene from Ortega’s role as Wednesday stands out the most. During a school dance at Nevermore Academy, the series’ boarding school, Wednesday steps out of her shell. On the dance floor with her date, she performs a medley of unusual and peculiar moves. The oddness adds to the intrigue not only of Wednesday as a character but the ways that Ortega has embodied the part.

The “Wednesday Dance” blew up all over social media, especially on TikTok where thousands of people were recreating Ortega’s original choreography. The hashtag dedicated to this dance scene has already garnered over 1.5 billion views.

It truly is incredible to see the immediate hold that Wednesday got on such a large audience, so it is no surprise that Ortega still cannot believe its success. Not only does this series make people nostalgic for The Addams Family, but it also incorporates odes from the original story.

Thing, a fan-favorite character, reappears on Wednesday, as well as Christina Ricci, who also played the role of Wednesday Addams in the ’90s films. On top of this, Tim Burton’s fantastical creations have always captured a ton of attention.

Plus, there is no doubt that Wednesday is perfectly cast. Each actor feels so comfortable in their roles, bringing out exactly who their characters are supposed to be. With this perfect combination, it seems impossible for the series to have not done well.

We are so excited to see that season 2 of Wednesday is in the works. It’s a bit too early to know exactly when new episodes will be released, so for now we can sit back, relax, and enjoy season 1 repeatedly. If one thing is for sure, it’s that the series will never get boring. Watch Wednesday on Netflix.
