DC’s new bosses, Peter Safran, and James Gunn dropped a bombshell on the fate of Ezra Miller’s The Flash movie. The duo revealed DC will move forward with Miller’s Flash, despite Miller’s trouble with the law.

“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We are fully supportive of that journey they are on right now. When the time is right, when they are ready to have that discussion, we will all figure out what the best path forward,” Safran told Variety at the Warner Bros. lot.

“But right now,” he continued, “they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversation with them, in the last couple of months, it feels like they are making enormous progress.”

Gunn even praised the new Flash movie.

“I will say here that Flash is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” Gunn complimented.

This sparked outrage among DC fans on social media.

Ezra Miller, who is non-binary and goes by “they/them” pronouns, was tangled in the law by pleading guilty to misdemeanor trespassing in Stamford, Vermont in early January. They were originally supposed to serve a year of probation and a $500 fine. However, the charges were dropped as long as they stay out of trouble. This wasn’t the only incident by Miller. Throughout 2022, they made numerous headlines for his trouble with the law.

In April of 2022, the Fantastic Beasts star was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hilo, Hawaii at a karaoke bar. This occurred after the star was allegedly asked to leave, resulting in them throwing a chair at a woman. Then, in June of 2022, a video resurfaced of an incident that occurred in 2020 in a bar in Reykjavík, Iceland where the actor allegedly choked a woman.

The following month, a protection order was filed against Miller by then 18-year-old Takota Iron Eyes’ parents for “cult-like” and “psychologically manipulative behavior” when she was underage. In a different case, the Justice League actor was met with another protection order against them from a mother for allegedly acting inappropriately toward her 12-year-old child.

In the wake of all of the controversy, Miller released a statement that same month, claiming they were struggling with their mental health.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life,” they wrote.

Miller was invited back on the set of The Flash for reshoots in October, moving ahead with the film. A script for a potential sequel is in line if the movie does well. The Flash is set to hit theaters on June 16.
