Jeremy Scott Leaves Moschino After Ten Years as Creative Director
After a decade of working with Moschino, the brand announced that Jeremy Scott would be stepping down as creative director.
Scott made his debut with Moschino in 2013 with his fall/winter 2014 collection. The collection quickly redefined the brand as campy, playful, and distinct. Scott’s first show played with pop culture and food logos, which was the first glimpse at his style as the creative director. The show featured luxury garments sporting children’s characters and fast-food branding. Satire was everywhere, from the red and yellow McDonald’s-esque garments to the all-caps slogans announcing “CASH COW” and “FUR REAL.” Scott embraced the over-saturated pop culture and used it to make a statement against consumerism.

The show quickly became notorious for its campy nature. The brand would later partner with Barbie in 2015 to create hot-pink garments using the Barbie font to spell Moschino. Other shows would mimic Marie Antionette, nursery rhymes, and inflatable beach toys, to name a few inspirations. One Vogue article explains that Scott had a “penchant for mixing high and low aesthetics.”
Previously, Scott has worked with celebrities ranging from Katy Perry to Zendaya. Recently, he even dressed Angela Basset for this year’s Oscars. Many celebrities even appeared at the 2019 “Notes on Camp” Met Gala wearing Moschino, including Kasey Musgraves in a Barbie-themed look. His impact and contributions to celebrity and pop culture is undeniable.
However, the brand announced his departure earlier Monday. Fans took to Twitter to grieve his exit. His presence within the Met Gala exhibits, iconic shows, and contributions to celebrity looks will certainly be remembered.

Scott’s involvement in Moschino completely redefined the brand. According to The New York Times, he “was only the third designer to lead the house.” However, his was one of the most distinguished. Suddenly, fashion was funny, playful, and sarcastic.
Though Scott announced his departure, he did not give many details. He previously mentioned in a Vogue interview that he wanted to ensure he still had time for a “nice life.” According to Vogue, he “hinted that his Moschino schedule kept him too busy,” offering possible answers for his departure.
Still, whatever his reasons, Scott will remain a recognized visionary for the brand. Massimo Ferretti, who owns Moschino, thanked him “for ushering in a distinct and joyful vision that will forever be a part of Moschino history.”
Although Scott will be greatly missed, fans can still take to the brand’s official Instagram to see the work of the legendary director.
