In a recent interview, Phoebe Bridgers revealed the less glamorous side of her massive fandom accompanied by her Boygenius bandmates, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus.

The highly successful trio was interviewed by Them Magazine as the release of their first full-length album, the record, approaches. The interview covered much ground, spanning the band’s personal lives, music, and astrological signs. With each other’s support, the musicians got deep about how their individual and collective rise to fame has impacted them.

The group also discussed the responsibility they feel about advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. As a band comprised of three queer women, the artists hope to use their musical influence to create a more accepting world. Speaking on the matter, Dacus declared, “I want every gay and trans person to have the opportunity to be inarticulate, stupid, and unexceptional.”

Later on in the interview, Bridgers got real about how the fame from her solo career and her work with Boygenius has a very negative side to it. The star shared that she often feels overwhelmed by the amount of attention she receives in her day-to-day life. The singer/songwriter added that she feels many people who claim to love her can also be very disrespectful to her.

Bridgers described an incredibly hard time in her life when her fanbase wasn’t supportive. She expressed the effect their behavior had on her, stating, “I, at one of the lowest points of my life, saw people who claim to love me fucking dehumanize me and shame me and fucking bully me on the way to my dad’s wake.”

Dacus then chimed in to express support for Bridgers, adding, “It’s abuse. We’ve talked about this to ourselves, but I’m glad you’re gonna say it to people who actually need to hear it.”

Despite the harassment they face along with their overwhelming success, the band has each other’s back and seems to serve as a valuable support system for each individual member. In fact, all three of them refer to the band as “their bubble.”

After attending several of the album listening parties, Boygenius fans are more excited than ever for the band’s new music. In addition to the fandom’s excitement, the record has also received unprecedented critical acclaim.

As Bridgers, Baker, and Dacus prepare for the drop of their highly anticipated album, Boygenius seems ready for anything, bonded by an unbreakable friendship.
