Stephanie Meyers is set to join the Twilight team for a television reboot of the iconic franchise.

Reportedly, an inside source told The Hollywood Reporter that a Twilight television series is in the works. However, little is known to the public.

Attached to the script is Sinead Daly, who was involved with The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Get Down, and Raised by Wolves. Sources close to The Hollywood Reporter allege that Daly is in talks with Lionsgate TV to discuss the future of the show.

Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig, who produced all five of the original Twilight films, are currently set to produce the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told Wall Street during an earnings call that ‘there are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,'” about the future of the Twilight and Hunger Games franchise. Currently, a fifth installment is being produced for The Hunger Games, entitled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Because the series had little development thus far, questions have arisen about the nature of it. As of right now, it seems that those involved are not sure if the series will tackle the original novels or be a spinoff of them.

The future cast members are also under speculation. Although Meyers and the original producers may be returning, there are doubts about the original cast returning as well. Famously, Robert Pattinson has spoken out on his hatred for the franchise, despite starring in all five films alongside Kristen Stewart. He even told Moviefone when prompted that had he not been in the series, he would have “mindlessly hated” it. Other cast members have also shared that they don’t appreciate being so closely linked to the series, as Screen Rant reports.

Fans of the original series have mixed reactions. While some are excited for the franchise to rise from the dead, others expect to be disappointed by the series due to the immense popularity of the films. As strange as the movies may be, they are undeniably iconic, from the unforgettable dialogue to the quintessential blue filter laid over each scene. As one Twitter user

Other reactions included criticism toward Meyers for her appropriation of the Native American Quileute tribe. The mythology of the tribe was featured heavily throughout her novels, but despite the popularity of the franchise, the small tribe was never compensated despite the fact that the media had capitalized on their culture. Currently, the Quileute tribe is raising money to move inland as they are currently located in a tsunami zone on the Pacific coast. Their efforts could have been aided immensely had they received compensation for their contributions to the Twilight franchise.

Additionally, fans of the series are quick to acknowledge how Meyers is not Native American herself and that her use of Quileute culture seemed uninformed and appropriative, leaning into stereotypes about Native Americans in general. Critics wonder if the series will do anything to rectify Meyers’ previous mistakes, or if the Quileute will be compensated this time around.

The news of Twilight‘s TV reboot comes as Harry Potter receives similar treatment. The highly successful series was announced to be rebooted on Max (formerly called HBO Max). The news was announced on Max’s official Instagram a week ago. Harry Potter suffers from the same problems as the new Twilight series. Many fans are concerned at both the relevancy of a new series and the fact that author J.K. Rowling has had a streak of controversy due to her stances on trans women and the presence of racism in her series.

With both Twilight and Harry Potter airing once again, it seems like 2010 again. Fans can prepare for the upcoming series by streaming Twilight on Prime Video and can aid the Quileute tribe by donating to their official website.
