Frank Ocean will no longer be headlining the second weekend of Coachella following his controversial performance at Weekend 1. He has had to pull out due to an ankle injury.

Fans of the elusive musician were overjoyed when he announced his return to the stage for the first time in six years. Ocean’s performance at Weekend 1 of Coachella received mixed reviews, and fans of the artist are now more disappointed than ever after it was announced that he will no longer be headlining the festival due to an injury.

The reason for his removal from the Weekend 2 lineup, as well as his tumultuous set last Sunday, is reportedly an injury Ocean suffered leading up to his show. The singer sustained an ankle injury while on location rehearsing his original set. This mishap was severe enough to warrant doctors to advise that he change his stage production on very short notice. Although it remains somewhat unclear, Ocean’s original plan for his set included an ice rink on stage, with several hockey players cast for the show.

While some fans expressed dismay that his concert did not meet their expectations, many others were grateful to have seen the artist sing some of his biggest hits live. Now, defeat is running high amongst those who won’t see the artist perform at all after his abrupt cancellation.

Frank Ocean’s reps released a statement that declared, “After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1, Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity. On doctor’s advice, Frank is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”

Ocean himself added, “It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.”

Since the announcement, people have taken to Twitter to express their sadness and frustration regarding the last-minute change.

As of now, Blink-182 is reportedly taking Ocean’s place, reuniting to headline this Sunday at the festival. Although Frank Ocean fans may remain upset, this year’s Coachella still boasts an impressive lineup that will surely not disappoint Weekend 2 attendees.
